When we invest in clothes with purpose and intention, we love them enough to want to make them last. Here are 10 tips for caring for your clothes.
- Wash your clothes inside out. This will help protect the fabric from fading and damages from the washing machine.
- Use a gentle cycle and cold water when washing your clothes. This will help keep the fabric strong and look new for longer.
- Hang dry your clothes. Avoid using the dryer as the heat can break down the material faster and lead to fading.
- Avoid using fabric softeners as they can break down the fabric fibers and cause fading.
- Spot treat stains as soon as possible. The longer a stain sits, the harder it will be to remove. My favorite is Grandma's Secret Spot Remover & Laundry Spray.
- Invest in quality pieces that are made of durable materials. This will ensure that your clothes will last longer and keep their shape.
- Store your clothes in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Sunlight can cause fading and damage the fabric.
- Rotate the clothes you wear. This will help reduce wear and tear on certain pieces, making them last longer.
- If clothing is wrinkled, I prefer steaming over ironing (it's quicker, easier and less likely to damage the garment). Not only does steaming remove wrinkles but it can kill up to 99% of germs and bacteria. The steamer I personally use is this one from Amazon.
- Take your clothes to a professional for repairs when needed. This will help extend the life of your clothes.
Hope this helps!
